BCHA - Employability and skills

We provide learning and training opportunities for hundreds of people each year, supporting people back in to employment and volunteering opportunities.

Our Employability and Skills team offers many different programmes and opportunities for you to build on your skills and increase your knowledge through learning. Our programmes are for people of all ages and abilities. Take a look at the BCHA website to read about all the different opportunities we offer and how you can sign up.

Ignite

Our Ignite Wellbeing, Employability and Skills Programme focuses on supporting people to find greater self-belief, break free from benefit support, get back in to work and live life. Delivered in partnership with Skills & Learning ACE, Ignite offers a range of workshops, which are tailored to build self-esteem and confidence, and to support people to achieve their goals. Ignite's workshops are delivered in relaxed and friendly group settings, but one-to-one sessions are also available with our Ignite Development Coaches.

New Leaf Allotment

BCHA's New Leaf Allotment in Throop is a 2.2 acre site, which is home to several growing beds, poly-tunnels, a pond, 40 apple trees and plenty of wildlife. The site also has a small wood working area, which allows both our students and volunteers to gain further skills.

At the allotment we offer people the opportunity to gain the NOCN Level 1 Certificate in Horticulture (QCF). This accredited course is designed to introduce learners to the skills and knowledge required to progress within the horticultural sector, or wider land-based industry.

Steps2Success

Steps2Success is a programme of support for young people in Dorset to get into work, education and training, which has been funded by European Social Funding. The Skills for Young People project is open to participants aged 15-24 who are at risk of or, already, not in education, employment or training (NEET). The programme focuses on those who are at risk of social exclusion and young people from marginalised communities. The course offers progression into a range of sustainable outcomes: employment, education, volunteering and apprenticeships.
